Adding a New Entry on an iPhone

peopleandroid

Now you have a project loaded onto your phone you are ready to add a new entry and attach the GPS location and a photo. To record Entries you DO NOT need mobile data connection as all of the data collection functionality of EpiCollect does not rely on data connectivity (GPS for example does not require data connectivity).

From the homescreen, click 'New Entry' and you will be taken to the main data entry screen.

Please make sure you have entered a valid email address from the settings screen first.

The New Entry screen (as left) consists of a number of textual details) :

Entry Time - indicating the date and time you tapped 'New Entry'

Entry Status - 'New' - This details the entries synchronisation status (see List Entries).

Location - A Latitude and Longitude based on the current point you are when 'New Entry' was tapped.

NOTE: Please read the following regarding GPS position for further information.

It should be noted that if you are inside or in an area where you do not have clear line of site with the sky, GPS may not be as accurate as required. We recommend that you always click the 'Override with current Location' button to make sure you have the most accurate reading for where you are currently.

If you have a good GPS fix, the location details will automatically be recorded. However, you can update your current position by tapping the button marked 'Tap to use your current location'.

This returns the latitude and longitude and a measure of accuracy based on where you are - The accuracy is a metre value.

Adding a Photo

Below the Location field the new entry will say 'Photo Touch camera icon to add a photo'

To add a photo to your new entry, click the photo icon in the middle of the bar at the bottom of the screen.

This will launch the camera application and allow you to take a photo.

Once you have taken the photo you require, click the 'Use' button to attach it to your new Entry.

You will now see that a thumbnail of the image you have just captured will appear next to the photo label on the New Entry page

Entering Form data

4

The form fields specified when the project you are collecting data for was first defined appear below the thumbnail of the image.

To enter data simply click the fields one at a time and enter either text (for a text field) or select options for a dropdown list or checkboxes.

Once you have entered all the data into the form simply click 'Save' button at the bottom right of the screen to save your new entry to the phone.

At this point you will be returned to the main menu and are ready to list and synchronise your data with the central Project website. We will now describe listing entries.
