EpiCollect.net - Chat Panel
To allow easy communication with people who may be collecting data we have included Google Talk within the mapping application. This is accessed by clicking the ‘Chat Panel’ Tab at the bottom left of the mapping interface (see screenshot below).
Google Talk requires that you login to Google Mail and that the person (or people) you wish to chat to have granted you access to contact them. You can sign in to Google Talk directly within the mapping interface (as in screenshot below).
Once signed in you will see a list of your contacts. If you have permission to contact someone who is currently collecting data you can message them directly
Your message will appear on the phone allowing the mobile user to respond directly from the handset as in the following screenshots.
The users response will appear within the mapping interface below where the initial message was entered as below.
Because Google Mail accounts are used, chat transcripts are automatically saved to your Google Mail account for future reference. We will now detail viewing data collected using Google Earth.
