Collecting Data - Drop-down and radio buttons
Drop-downs allow the presentation of a pre-defined list of answers to a user within which only one can be answered.
Drop-downs are defined within the Form Builder and can have any number of values (text or numeric).
The following screenshots show the process for choosing a value from a drop-down:
Firstly a user taps the 'Select' drop-down, which pops up the list of choices they can select. Tapping a choice returns the user to the question with their choice selected.
If a drop-down is set as 'required' then the user must make a choice before progressing in the form.
Radio buttons are conceptually similar to drop-downs in that a number of choices are offered to a user of which they may choose only one. Howver, radio butons differ in that all values are initially displayed on the screen at once. The following screenshot shows the same question as above, but presented with radio buttons.
Choosing drop-downs or radio buttons for your question is really an aesthetic choice, however, as with drop-downs, if a radio field is required, a user will be warned before they can progress in the form.
We will now move on to describe entering data using check boxes.
